Hey, I’m Rhys (he/him)!
I’m a New York City–based writer, actor, and producer who grew up in the small town of Wallingford, Connecticut, just a few miles from New Haven. Back then, I was either buried in a book or staging elaborate “pretend” performances for anyone who would watch (sometimes hundreds).
By high school, my obsession with acting turned into a passion for storytelling. I even finished my first hour-long pilot before graduation (yes, I still have it… and no, you cannot read it). From that moment on, I knew I couldn’t separate my love for performing from my drive to write. I had to do both.
I went on to earn my B.F.A. in Writing for Film, Television & Emerging Media at Ithaca College, with a minor in Theatre. While there, I collaborated with friends to write, produce, and act in several short films, including Forget Me Not and Do Us Part.
My work often explores the apocalyptic chaos of young adulthood, the strength of found families, and the intersections of queerness and race. Outside of writing and performing, you can usually find me at a seafood boil, on a climbing wall, or practicing Karate (I’m a black belt!), or sipping on a frozen margarita, enjoying life's many joys with my friends.
Some highlights:
My play, Lifetime Achievements and All the Shortcomings Thereafter, won the L.B. Williams BIPOC Playwriting Competition and was nominated for Best Short Play at the New York Theatre Festival.
I recently appeared as Zak Kennedy in Hope Deferred, a web series I wrote and produced.
I am writing the libretto for a new musical called The Songbirds. Stay tuned for updates and details on the show's progress.
